Another little Syrian girl drowned yesterday
If they are still looking for survivors, Greek coastguards were able to rescue 13 people. The accident occurred north of Lesbos, one of the Greek islands who knows an influx of refugees from Syria ravaged by war.
The death of this little girl of five years came a day after the discovery of the body of a Syrian girl four years Friday on a beach in Cesme area in western Turkey. Again, the boat in which she had embarked to join Greece was wrecked.
274 died off Turkey in 2015
In early September, the pictures of a small Syrian refugee 3 years Aylan Kurdi, found dead on a beach in the resort of Bodrum in Turkey, had sparked a wave of emotion and global outrage and forced the EU to partially open its borders to refugees. Shipwrecks are frequent in effect in the region. According to Turkish authorities, 274 migrants have drowned since the beginning of the coast of Turkey and 53,200 others were rescued by the Coast Guard.
Given the proliferation of shipwrecks, hundreds of migrants, mainly Syrian refugees, decided to try to enter Greece by land border but remain blocked near the Turkish city of Edirne, the Turkish authorities denying them access to the border
