OTHER FACTS - A gang of thieves between France and Eastern Europe has been dismantled in Ile-de-France. The 13 criminals were targeting luxury bike stores. In total, the amount of the loot would amount to one million euros.
A bike is worth up to 10,000 euros
The object of their lust is surprising. Usually, these are luxury cars or jewelry and watches worth which are the subject of trafficking. In this case, it is the luxury bikes that made the heyday of a gang of criminals, led since Moldova.
The police and the French gendarmerie come to challenge thirteen Moldovan nationality of persons suspected of having masterminded a plan to steal cycles in France. Then frames sent in Eastern Europe where they had gone there. In total, the scheme would have earned one million euros to thieves. A dozen people were indicted and écrouée for "aggravated theft by an organized group, criminal conspiracy and aggravated concealment".

 60 burglaries

The investigation started in June 2014 after robbing a store specializing in luxury bikes Bonneuil-sur-Marne, Val-de-Marne. Amount of damage: 30,000 euros. A total of 60 robberies were reported, mainly in the Paris region but also in Belgium. For some traders, these burglaries were synonymous with bankruptcy filings, after they have been targeted three times.
Each time, the perpetrators proceeded in the same manner and aimed the same type of store. "They targeted luxury shops, were careful trails, and the day came, they hoisted on the roof using grappling hooks and ropes," explains Thierry Galy, head of the territorial security of the Val-de-Marne, in a press briefing. Next, using disc cutters, they were cutting part of the roof.

The fear of a new gang

The move triggered alarms. Hidden on the roof, the perpetrators could watch the police called to the scene who themselves could not but see that the storefronts were intact and that no intruder was inside. "Colleagues, seeing no deterioration, eventually concluding that nuisance tripping," adds the head of security. That each thief "had its role," "it was almost unstoppable."
Although the authorities are pleased to have dealt a blow to this sector, they are aware that their work will still be long. "Our contacts with our foreign colleagues leave us thinking that this team clearly leaves room for others," agrees Thierry Galy.
