The health study days - too many calories: be careful, diabetes can happen in two days! (video clip)

POWER - A US study which sought to decipher the relationship between diabetes and turbocharging uncovered nuisance speed of a calorie overdose.
The volunteers were subjected to a strict regime based pizza burgers and other dishes typical of the "junk food" made in USA.
Researchers at Temple University in Philadelphia in the United States did not go dead hand. To understand the role of a diet too rich in the development of diabetes they have not hesitated to eat all six volunteers and impose a forced rest. And published their findings in the journal Science Translational Medicine are edifying: all guinea pigs quickly experienced a deterioration in their general condition

► Methodology: six healthy volunteers subjected to 6000 calories per day

The six men selected for the study had to stay in bed for a week and have swallowed no less than 6000 calories a particularly greasy and sweet food (pizza, hamburgers ...) almost three times the total recommended daily intake (2100 calories for a person in less than 30 minutes of physical activity per day). To be clear, equivalent to 6000 calories roughly six classic menu (burger, fries, soda) in a basic fast food.

► What the study showed: the first signs of diabetes ... in two days!

If logically all the men in the study gained an average of 3.5 kilograms, they also presented an insulin resistance after two days. This is the well known symptoms of diabetes: this hormone supposed to regulate glucose levels that fails. Moreover, many cell debris was found in the urine of volunteers reflecting oxidative stress caused by diet. In other words the body, attacked by the tons of junk food could not cope and many cells have been destroyed as well. After further investigations the researchers realized that a molecule in particular had been a victim of this oxidative stress: the GLUT-4. However, the latter is involved in glucose absorption process.

► What to conclude: a gap ... but it will diversify and move

So after two days, the volunteers underwent the first effects of their diet by presenting warning signs of diabetes, a chronic disease that affects 2.3 million French, 3.8% of the general population. But be reassured, the subjects of this experiment, following a balanced diet, found their form before the study. This proves that it is never too late to change his eating habits and good habits to our plate.
